Recently, the Gujarat Super League (GSL) was announced, which is Gujarat’s first-ever franchise-based football league. Six teams, named after different regions of the state, will compete in fifteen intense matches. The teams include our very own Vadodara Warriors, along with Surat Strikers, Saurashtra Spartans, Karnavati Knights, Gandhinagar Giants, and Ahmedabad Avengers. The team franchise owners are all great goal-scorers in their respective fields. Kamlesh Gohil of K and D Communication Ltd backs team Vadodara Warriors.

The tournament is led by the Gujarat State Football Association (GSFA) under the guidance of Shri Parimal Nathwani. It is well-planned and structured. The selection process gives priority to individuals who have excelled in esteemed tournaments like the GSFA Reliance Cup Inter District Football Tournament for Senior Men and the GSFA Senior Club Championship. A total of 84 players plus substitutes from Gujarat will be scouted for the six GSL teams, with preference for those shining in both competitions. Additionally, 36 non-Gujarat registered players from 12 teams distinguished in the final round of the 77th Santosh Trophy in Arunachal Pradesh will grace the GSL, enhancing the league’s talent pool. The GSL boasts top-notch coaches, all AFC A Certified coaches from Gujarat, and local technical staff, underscoring its commitment to nurturing homegrown talent.

Matches kick off on 1st May 2024 and will be played at TransStadia in Ahmedabad, a FIFA Certified pitch, ensuring optimal conditions for athletes and an immersive experience for spectators. With anticipation soaring, Gujarat and Gujaratis are all set to witness history in the making as the Gujarat Super League ignites the passion of a state united in its love for the beautiful game.
